Our Heritage

Aviation Component Solutions (ACS) has a rich and storied history, tracing its roots back over a century through a series of strategic mergers, rebrands, and expansions that have shaped it into the industry leader it is today.

The origins of ACS date back to the early 1900s when the company was founded as the Cleveland Cap Screw Company. Established as a manufacturer specializing in precision fasteners, Cleveland Cap Screw quickly became known for its quality and innovation, serving a variety of industries, including early aviation.

As aviation technology rapidly advanced, Cleveland Cap Screw was acquired by Thompson Products Tapco Plant, a key player in aircraft component manufacturing. During World War II, the Tapco Plant became instrumental in reverse engineering aircraft components—an expertise that remains a core pillar of ACS’s business today. This period marked the company’s deeper integration into the aerospace industry, laying the groundwork for future advancements.

In 1958, Thompson Products was acquired by TRW, a global powerhouse in advanced aviation and aerospace technology. Under TRW’s Power Accessories Division, the company expanded its capabilities, enhancing its expertise in power systems and critical aviation components. TRW’s leadership in aerospace innovation cemented its status as a key supplier for both military and commercial aviation sectors.

The next pivotal moment came in 1986 when TRW spun off part of its operations to form Argo-Tech, a company that would become a world leader in fluid engineering. Argo-Tech specialized in fuel pumps and fluid systems, advancing aviation technology with high-performance engineering solutions. This era saw the company refining its capabilities in fuel and hydraulic systems, further strengthening its position in the aviation industry.

In 2001, Argo-Tech’s Repair Division was spun off and acquired by Michael Lipscomb, giving rise to Aviation Component Solutions (ACS). With this transition, ACS emerged as an independent company dedicated to providing high-quality aviation component solutions, maintaining its legacy of innovation and precision

Now under the second generation of Lipscomb family leadership, ACS continues to build on its strong foundation, expanding its reach and capabilities while staying true to its core expertise in reverse engineering and advanced aviation solutions. Looking ahead, ACS remains committed to growth, innovation, and maintaining its position as a trusted partner in the aviation and aerospace industries.

Mike Carabotta

Engineering Manager

After many years of aerospace experience, Mike has established himself as an industry expert. In addition to having earned his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Cleveland State University, he has served as a machinist, a QA inspector, and a design engineer before taking on his current role as our Engineering Manager.

A specialist in the reverse engineering process, Mike is directly responsible for the continued expansion of our already-vast catalog.

Mitch Kokish

Quality Assurance Manager

With an extensive background of many years in aerospace quality assurance, Mitch has operated in many roles including service as an inspector, radiographer, laboratory technician, and quality manager.
